Midsummer Solstice Celebrations in the Countryside of Latvia
Enjoy the shortest night of the year on the countryside of Latvia surrounded by the Latvian folk music, dances, games, the smell of fresh grass and beer, joy and bone fire lights. Midsummer Solstice Celebration has always been very important part of Latvian culture. Hundreds of folk songs and traditions have been devoted to this special Ligo (Midsummer) night. The strongest traditions of course are lightning of bone fires, drinking beer and eating special Ligo cheese (home made cheese with cumin seeds in it). This also is a very romantic night when young girls and boys are looking for the flower of fern, the magical symbol of love.
We offer you to celebrate this magical night in a farm in the countryside, where you will be met by the hosts of the farm and a group of local people dressed in Latvian national costumes. You will participate in making wreaths from flowers and leafs of an oak, which you will put on your heads. You will also have a chance to learn special Ligo songs and dances, and to participate in Latvian traditional games. On that night Latvian traditional home-made meals will be served, including Ligo cheese, pork sausages, salad, sweet pastries and pastries with ham, black (rye) bread and a lot of beer.
We can run it for groups of 500 persons
Activity lasts around 3-4 hour
